On Sunday, August 25, at both services: At the request of the Presiding Bishop and Bishop Magnus: We at St. Matthias will offer a service of Remembrance, Lamentation and New Hope as we mark the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first African Slaves to Jamestown. Bishops from all three Dioceses in Virginia have offered their own personal statements regarding this event. They can be found on their respective Diocesan Websites. 11 members of St. Matthias & the Rector have joined together to prepare this special service. We pray it will bring meaning and healing to you and to our world. Contact Rhonda Reisch or Renay Hardy with questions or to help.

We’re excited to share about our service and fun from our Wonder Voyage trip to New Orleans. Join us tomorrow (Sunday, August 11th) immediately following the 10am service.
Cursillo #167 - September 26-29, Chanco on the James. Cursillo is a movement within the Episcopal church designed to help us grow closer to Jesus Christ. Cursillo is also a community where we're encouraged to live joyfully and serve faithfully in grace. Participants begin by attending a Cursillo Weekend. Fledgling Sunday August 25th at both Services, we will offer special prayers for our parents who will be first time “empty nesters”, for parents whose children will be experiencing a major life change in the Fall, and for all of our college students who will be returning to their places of education once again or for the first time.
Day 6 and 7 of our mission to New Orleans offered free time, celebration and departure. I know today (Saturday) is a strange day for our team. We’ve spent a very intense week together and now we’ve entered back in to our every day lives like nothing happened. It’s hard to explain. A reminder to all about the excitement in the parking lot. The paving has begun and is moving along quickly. Please be mindful of areas as they are blocked off and remember that the building will be closed on a Thursday and Friday for the paving to be completed.

On Sunday, the Sunday School teachers challenged the teens to a game of Bible Jeopardy! Much fun was had by the contestants as well as the audience. Those teens know so many facts! Congrats to MJ who was the grand winner.

A Thanksgiving Thank You! The members of St. Matthias again have shown their overwhelming generosity in providing Thanksgiving meals for the families of G.W. Carver Elementary School in the city of Richmond and Chalkley and Greenfield Elementary Schools in Chesterfield County. Your donations provided the makings of a very happy Thanksgiving Day for each of these families and we are all so grateful to you. A huge thank you for your ready response in giving and sharing. Best wishes to each of you for a very happy Thanksgiving, from all of us in the Food Pantry.
